Microsoft is getting in the blogging game now. Monday Microsoft launched their new open-source blogging platform called Oxite. With the product aimed at specifically at developers it is not intended to compete with other blogging software such as WordPress or Movable Type. The code for Oxite has been posted on its CodePlex website on Friday and announced its release on Monday. Oxite is a standards-complaint, extensible content-management system designed for blogs and larger websites and includes such features as pingbacks, trackbacks, anonymous commenting, gravatars, and RSS feeds for any page level. Oxite can integrate with Microsoft developer software such as ASP.NET MVC, Visual Studio Team Suite, and Background Services Architecture. I just thought I’d let all of the readers at Daily Free Software know that there is a Facebook virus going around and you should watch out for it. It is sent through Facebook or MySpace in a message. It tells users to click a video. The message’s subject will read as follows:
“Hey, I have this hilarious video of you dancing. Your face is so red. You should check it out.”
Or
“Look you were filmed all naked!”
If you have seen one of these messages in your Facebook or MySpace and opened it you have probably been infected by the “Koobface” virus. It comes through a message sent by someone that you think is your friend or your friend has it and it has sent one to you. Once you open it up and click on the URL, you are redirected to a site that looks like YouTube and “Koobface” tells you to update your Flash player so it can display the video but the virus is in the so-called update “flash_player.exe”. Please watch out for this virus, your computer can be turned into a computer zombie and used for even worse stuff without your consent or knowledge that its even doing anything. Facebook has put up instruction telling you how to remove the “Koobface” virus and telling you to change your password. So make sure you keep your Facebook looked down and keep a watch out for some fishy stuff happening. Facebook is diligently working to fix this problem and end the spread of this virus.

Do you have any .iso images and you don't know how to burn them to a disc in Windows Vista. Check out ISO recorder. Iso recorder is a free tool that lets you burn .iso images to CD's and DVD's. One good thing about having Windows Vista is that ISO Recorders DVD support is only for Vista. Daily Free Software program of the day. If you want a free screen capturing program check out Screenshot Captor. It has many differences that set it apart from other screenshot programs such as it is optimized for taking lots of screenshots, smart autonaming of files, good multi-monitor support, it is highly configurable to work any way that you want it to, it sits in the system tray and stays out of your way. It also has lots of capture modes: Multimon (multiple monitors), desktop, active window, region, windows object. Each mode has a specific hotkey for the fastest access. Encrypt your data with TrueCrypt. TrueCrypt is a free open-source encryption program. It creates a virtual encrypted disk in a file and mounts it as a real disk. It encrypts partitions, USB drives, and external hard drives as well. The main thing I liked about it is that it has two levels of plausible deniability just in case you are forced to give up a password. TrueCrypt is supported on Windows Vista, Windows Xp, Mac OS X, and Linux.

Over the next few post I am going to show you some websites that offer free online picture editing and photo manipulation tools. If we don't cover one that you like or have heard of please leave me a comment and I will be sure to read up on it and cover it in a later post plus I will give you credit in the article and list your website for a free in-post link.

For the first free online picture editor I am going to tell you about Picresize.com. There are two versions to this website. The first is Picresize 2.0 and it is the basic of the two versions. Probably because the other version is newer. Picresize 2.0 has alot of features that any picture editor needs such as resize, rotate, sharpen, equalize, and flip plus a few more advanced effects like gaussian blur, grayscale, oil paint, raise, and raised frame. After you upload a picture, choose a new size, and pick which special effects you want to add you have to option to save it in three different formats(JPG, GIF, or PNG).

The second version of this free picture editor is Picresize 3.0 which has all of the same features as version 2.0 but with some more effects. So if you want more control over your photos then I would suggest you go with version 3.0. Some of the new effects with this version is contrast, brighness, text, and polaroid. It still only lets you save the finished picture in the same three formats but it lets you choose the quality of the picture. Three more tools is the Fetch, API - Web Services, and the Batch Resize options that are at the bottom of the page. Overall I would use the Picresize 3.0 becaue it has more effects, gives the user more control over the photo, and it has a newer look that is alot easier to navigate. If you like to use 3rd party msstyle themes and use un-signed custom visual styles or want to check them out and add them to your Windows computer then check out UXTheme MultiPatcher. This patch changes your uxtheme.dll and allows for the use of any 3rd party msstyle theme on Windows Xp/SP1/Sp2 or Windows Server 2003. To patch the UXTheme file all you have to do is run the program and it will determine the operating system, then patch the right file and reboot the PC.
